Frequently Asked Questions
If you are a fresher coming to Loughborough University and are planning on staying in Falk-Egg for your first year, you might be asking some of these questions..
-
When are the IMS rugby fixtures/training starting?
-
What kind of stuff do you need to bring, like in the kitchen what is provided? And is it 1 shower per 8 people! Sounds... interesting
-
How many shelves do you get in fridge / freezers?
-
How much am I gunna spend in fresher's week?
-
Fresher's week while being highly subsidised is expensive, if an average night out in a town and city is £30-40 you will have the same amount most nights for about £15-20 (student prices) but for fresher's week you could be out every night for two weeks so it could be between £200 and £300. Try and find out which nights are cheaper (Hey Ewe on the Wednesday is great for cheap drinks £1.50 for any drink!) -
How much space is there in the room for storage?
-
In your room you get 2 draws (about 1 meter wide) and two cupboards with more storage in them, you also get draws under your bed, so storage isn't a problem. (Different rooms have different things in them)
IMS rugby practice trials will either be during Fresher's week or will be just after. The season starts quite soon in October.
What is provided is a microwave, oven, kettle, toaster and fridge and freezers. You need to bring your own pots and pans and cooking and eating implements.
The shower is 1 between 8 and there are two toilets between 8. However Falk-Egg showers are by far the best on campus, they're soo powerful!
Works out that you usually get one shelf in the fridge, and half a shelf in the freezer, so its worth being considerate when getting your first lot of shopping in and not stocking up three months worth of frozen food.
Well if your looking on this page you must be one of the lucky people coming to Loughborough in the near future, but where will you live. All students who put Loughborough down as their firm choice for UCAS will be guaranteed a place in halls for their first year. But that still leaves you with a choice of 14 halls, ranging from the huge Towers (great for fire drills) to the smaller Butler Court (right beside one of Loughborough's busiest roads). But if your looking on this site you must be wondering what is so great about Falk Egg, well I'll tell you.
Falkner Eggington Court (known as Falk Egg) was built in the early 70's on Towles Field and joined the campus to Forest Road (which makes Falk Egg very easy to find after a night out). It is named after Alfred ‘Eggs’ Eggington, ex-mayor of Loughborough, and Wing Commander Harold E. Falkner, acting principal 1952-1953.
But enough of a history lesson what makes it so great now, its simple we are the largest self catered hall in Loughborough. Why is that a good thing? Because by the simple laws of statistics that means we have more people that you will share interests with. Although it is cliché there is a community here, I know when I was sat in your position last year I found it funny hearing that, but when I got here I found I was wrong. Falk Egg can easily get 200 people out on an organised event and during freshers week (all 2 weeks of it) we managed to get most Falk Egg out.
Check out the website to find out about what is going on we have regular RAG (raising and giving) raids to cities, social nights which paint the town red, black and white and sports teams which show why Falk Egg is the best.
